The Navajo Tribal Utility Authority has completed the multi-utility work that was part of the 2020 Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, otherwise known as the CARES Act.
Overall, NTUA constructed 1,764 infrastructure projects costing $76.8 million,
including: 288 Communication infrastructure projects, 277 Water/Wastewater
infrastructure projects, and 1,199 electric infrastructure projects.
NTUA deeply appreciates that Navajo Nation leaders had entrusted NTUA
with CARES Act Expenditure Plan funding in order to build, extend, and
provide utility services to families living without.
In addition, NTUA Wireless installed internet equipment to over 3,100 homes
of which more than 1,000 were given to students and teachers so they could
afford to attend school. The student/teacher plan provided them with free
equipment, free internet service for the first 4 months and offered a 50
percent reduction in the standard pricing plan.
This is especially critical with the dreadful COVID-19 virus that continues to loom throughout the Navajo Nation. In order to meet these crucial multi-utility needs, NTUA organized the workforce to prioritize and complete the projects by December 2020.
NTUA strived hard to meet this goal, demonstrating commitment and dedication to providing safe, reliable and affordable utility services that exceed our customer’s expectations.
As the weeks passed from August to December 2020, NTUA provided updates of progress of various projects. Ahe’hee’.
